Magnetic Flag Board

The magnetic flag board is a leader resource that can be used to help to teach Cub Scouts the structure of the Australian Flag. The board comprises a blue, metal base onto which the individual flag components (made from fridge magnet material) can be placed.

Magnetic Flag Board

I used red and white contact adhesive, stuck onto sheets of fridge magnet material that I purchased from a sign maker, together with the templates (for red and white flag elements) provided in the paper flag exercise for each of the flag elements. I printed the templates, then used sticky tape to stick the whole template sheets onto the covered [with coloured contact] sheets of fridge magnet material, then I cut out the elements using a sharp knife (Olfa knife or similar) and ruler.

The flag base is made from a sheet of 1.6 mm galvanized iron, covered with blue contact adhesive, and edged with a piece of square beading into which I cut a groove that would fit snugly over the edge of the metal sheet.
